THE
SUZUK COMPANY IS BACK WITH NEW SUZUKI JIMNY
The new
Jimny seems to be the lime in our lemonade this summer, especially now that we
know that the new G-Wagen is nothing like the original diesel
workhorse. Why? Because next to having an independent front suspension in the
name of road comfort, it's also wider, longer, and more luxurious than the
people at Austria's Steyr-Daimler-Puch (now Magna Steyr) could have ever
foreseen. In fact, the Gs became so fancy that it almost feels wrong to scratch
their metallic paint jobs. And what exactly is the point of spending so much
money on an otherwise capable off-roader when you don't even intend to go on an
adventure with it?
That's where
Suzuki's compact, lightweight, and equally boxy 2019 Jimny comes in. It's the
perfect go everywhere donkey that now also has the looks for your local
boulevard.

eight colors at launch, the new Jimny is a breath of fresh air after two
decades of not thinking about the third-generation car. Frankly, Suzuki's first
"jeep" in 1970 was a two-stroke, hard working deathtrap, while the
second-generation "Samurai" has had a cult following since its launch
in 1981.
To cover all
fronts, the 2019 Jimny comes on a ladder frame with 3-link solid axles and
part-time 4WD with a low range transfer gear.
No wonder
this compact off-roader plays a huge part in Suzuki's plans to increase
European sales from 245,000 vehicles to 300,000, which would grant it a 1.5
percent market share on the oldest of continents. But the world for Suzuki
doesn't stop there, so while the JDM market is looking at engines as tiny as
660cc, export models can get both 1.2 and 1.5 liter naturally aspirated gas
engines, or a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder. Suzuki will pair those
with five-speed manuals or four-speed automatics, while wheel choices will
include 15 and 16-inch alloys.
And for a
touch of modernity, the list of other goodies includes air conditioning, cruise
control, push-button start, a multi-function steering wheel, and autonomous
emergency braking.
